Praise You in the Storm

I came across this video that features the popular song by Casting Crowns and depicts images of some of the most horrific tragedies to hit the United States in recent memory, such as the 9/11 attacks, the Columbine shootings, and of course Katrina. Several of the pictures come from Lakeshore. The video shows our steeple set up beside the road in front of our first makeshift blue tarp shelter. You can see what the storm left of the St. John’s catholic church, just a few blocks from us. If you notice a demolished yellow house, I think that is the Green’s house. We are currently in the process of rebuilding their home with volunteers who come to Lakeshore. Close to the end of the video, the cardboard sign sat out in front of where we distributed water in the weeks following the storm. It reads, “Come Let him who thirsts come. And whoever desires, let him drink from the water of life freely – Jesus”

Bro. Don,

How was your trip to Alabama this past weekend? We would have loved to been in Decatur to see you, but we both teach classes at our church, so it’s hard to miss.

We look forward to seeing you soon on our next trip to Lakeshore.

Also, at 1:14 in the video it appears to show the house next door to Lakeshore Baptist Church (where the kitchen is now) before it was cleaned up. I originally thought it was my picture they had used, but there are very slight differences, but overall very similar.

Hey Don – I just watched the “Praise You In The Storm” video by Casting Crowns. It was a blessing and a reminder that all we have and all we have been given to serve Him is for the purpose of Glorifying Him and pointing needy people to The Savior. I am so thankful for the time God gave us this summer to serve with you there in Lakeshore. We were all touched by the commitment of you and your people to minister to the needy folks of the Lakeshore area.
