As Gulf Coast Trip #7 drew to a close for me, this picture best captured my thoughts…
Douglas Brinkley, considered America’s leading historian, wrote a book on Hurricane Katrina entitled, “The Great Deluge.” I highly recommend reading his chapter devoted entirely to Hancock County…”What Was The Mississippi Coast.”
However, his writings only capture a portion of the story…
The most significant omission of Brinkley’s fine volume is “The Great Display” (of God’s glory).
I have seen His hand on display in very unique & creative ways on each of my 7 trips to the region. I have also seen His hand on display in very simple, but very profound ways.
This sunset picture, taken by one of our team members, communicates to me several different things…
1. Increased Foliage – it’s returning to the Gulf Coast more and more! (as is hope for many in the community)
2. Devastation Remnants – still evident with some of the local trees (and with some of the people)
3. Cloud Formations – this unique variety best represents the various emotional and spiritual conditions of Hancock County residents
4. Beyond the Sunset – while we continue to marvel at His majesty on display amidst very challenging times, we long for that eventual “blissful morning” the hymnwriter spoke of…
Continue to pray for the residents of the Gulf Coast…
Monitor the progress on LBC’s website…
Pray about making a trip yourself to the region…
Communicate this need to others in your network…
