Literacy is a gospel issue. God chose to reveal Himself through the written Word. We are “People of the Book.” Christians have always been advocates of reading, so it was natural for us to stand in that tradition with this great event we had last week.
On January 20, 2020 Lakeshore Baptist Church hosted a community book fair where we gave away hundreds of used books including fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, cook books and more.
We partnered with the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention who provided 120 book bags for our “Day of Service.” We stuffed each bag with a bible and also had a full table of gospel tracts and Christian literature from our friends at The Chapel Library.
The Hancock County Public Library had a table with pencils, library card applications, stickers and bookmarks to go in the book bags.
Folks from our church kept the tables stocked with books and had some great conversations with people who came to the book fair. Our young people had the opportunity to interact with the community and give away gospel tracts.
The event was so successful, we plan to do another one this summer.
